Private health insurance rebates threatened - your help is needed!
You may have heard that the government is conducting a review of natural therapies with the aim of eliminating rebates for some (or many) of them. The passage below is quoted directly from the federal
budget papers released by the government earlier this
year:
"The Government will undertake a review of the
private health insurance rebate for natural therapies.
The review, which will be overseen by the Chief Medical
Officer, will examine the evidence of clinical efficacy,
cost effectiveness and safety and quality of these
natural therapies.
Following the completion of the review, the Government
will introduce through regulation a list of natural therapies
that will continue to receive the private health insurance
rebate. Natural therapy treatments not included on this
list will no longer be eligible for the rebate."
As the new Vice-President of the Bowen Association of Australia (BAA) it is my top priority to help the Association, bowen practitioners and yourselves put together a concerted and strong case for Bowen Therapy. As specified above we will need to demonstrate the clinical efficacy, safety, cost-effectiveness and quality of Bowen. In next months' newsletter I will state specific ways in which you can help in this effort.
The review could end up being a blessing in disguise. If after the review Bowen Therapy remains eligible for health fund rebates, the BAA will have a much stronger
argument to take to the remaining health funds that
do not currently offer rebates for Bowen.
Look out for more on this topic next month...
Sincerely,
Joshua Rasco

New Back Exercise Video
If you get a stiff or sore lower back I recommend that you try this gentle, easy-to-do lower back exercise. It is particularly good to do if you have a sedentary lifestyle. It is an exercise taken from yoga, so you might recognise it. Have a look!
